Dhanush’s Jagame Thandhiram has skipped its theatrical release and streamed on Netflix on Friday. The movie is the story of a don from Madurai who goes to London and unintentionally messes the cause of refugees fighting against racism and discrimination. The movie directed by Karthik Subbaraj is the biggest OTT release of the South in the COVID second wave.
But the early reviews including that of Binged.com’s indicate that the movie is not up to the mark and fans are in for a huge disappointment. Besides the Tamil version, the movie is available in English, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions. Telugu is one of the major markets for Dhanush but then the quality of the dubbing has been disappointing.
There have been half-hearted efforts evident everywhere. At some places, some of the Tamil songs used are not replaced with the Telugu ones even though the exact equivalents are present.
Some of the dialogues look so artificial and seem more like translation than dubbing. Many Tamil films of Dhanush have been dubbed into Telugu but this is not the case with them. This may be an issue with Netflix taking over the dubbing or the makers have taken it easy since they offloaded the rights to Netflix. Even in the second case, it is the duty of Netflix to ensure better dubbing quality.
