Jaideep Ahlawat Clarifies How I&B Regulation Will Affect OTT Content!

People were enjoying the newly arrived boom in the streaming market as it provided fresh and raw content which struck a chord with the Indian audience readily. Be it use of expletives to create humour or to showcase excessive gore to make it hard hitting, the shows and movies have succeeded in engaging viewers to the screens. This continuous emergence was being dubbed as a revolution in the Indian entertainment industry which lead to many people being excited for the upcoming shows and content in OTT.

But their happening hit a snag when the news came out regarding the I&B ministry taking over the OTTs and other digital content providing apps, meaning that now the shows might have to go through several cuts and censorship to provide a healthy content to the audience. This has divided the audience and the topic itself has been debated alot. Several people claim that OTTs might lose their freedom and the one thing which made them different from the regular TV content or films.

Jaideep Ahlawat (Gangs of Wasseypur, Raazi, Paatal Lok) on a recent interview put his thoughts regarding the question that how the newly formed news will affect future OTT contents and will there be any more shows such as Sacred Games, Mirzapur or Paatal Lok for that matter? This is because, these are the shows which were noted for its extensive gore and expletives and turned many heads and also raised questions regarding the Indian culture.

Ahlawat, answered briefly that whatever might be happening in the future will be followed, and if there is a case for censorship, then the main factors to make change are the makers of the content and not the actors. He explained that ultimately its the writers and producers who are responsible for the dialogues and they’ll be the ones who might be under pressure.

He also noted the fact, that actors are the face and medium to convey the dialogues through the screen but ultimately the work to be done is behind the scenes and that is during the production of the series. While there is no confirmation as of now for the fact that whether or not there will be a censorship module for future shows or how I&B ministry will be regulating the content.
But it will be interesting for sure to see what the future holds for OTTs.
