The streaming giant Netflix never fails to surprise his subscribers with quality and unique content. It is coming up with yet another original, based on a popular video game.
Netflix‘s new project is an adaptation of popular video game ‘The Division.’ Earlier, David Leitch (known for directing Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, and John Wick) was supposed to be the director. However, due to scheduling issues, he had to step down. Now, Rawson Marshall Thurber (known for Skyscraper and Central Intelligence) has taken David’s place. This is not Thurber’s first collaboration with Netflix as he recently directed Netflix’s upcoming movie ‘Red Notice’ starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds.
The Division quickly became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history and currently has more than 20 million players. Its next part, The Division 2, was launched in March 2019. Netflix acquired film rights to the game back in summer 2019.
The adaptation will be about a story set in near future where a virus outbreak takes place on Black Friday. The virus is spreading via paper money, killing millions in New York and creating a chaos. To save what’s left of the city, a trained group of civilians are appointed.
Upcoming ‘The Division’ will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain in the lead roles. David Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North Productions; Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories; Chastain’s Freckle Films; Thurber’s Bad Version; and Ubisoft Film and Television are all the producers. The makers have not revealed the releasing date. It is rumoured to go on floors either by end of 2021 or beginning of 2022, only on Netflix. We’ll get back to you with further updates. Stay tuned!
