The first look for ‘Jama’ is out now. The upcoming Tamil drama will be directed by Pari Elavazhagan and have him in the lead role as well.
The movie will have its music composed by the iconic Ilayaraja. And it is bankrolled by Teach and Learn Media, the makers of Koozhangal. Koozhangal was the Oscar submission for India in 2022.
Apart from Elavazhagan, there will also be other actors like Chetan, Ammu Abhirami, Srikrishna Dayal, KVN Manimegalai, Kaala Kumar, Vasanth Marimuthu, and Siva Maran.
Pari Elavazhagan has previously worked in movies like Yaanum Theeyavan, Chennai Palani Mars, J Baby and this is the first time he will be turning towards direction.
‘Jama’ will be the story of a Therukoothu artist. Therukoothu artists were the male actors in traditional Tamil plays who would enact the female roles, because female actors were not allowed on stage for a long time. These Therukoothu artists usually developed a distinct way of walking and talking that was considered to be effeminate and they were given less respect by people than other actors. The director Pari Elavazhagan has told that the story of the movie will be about a Therukoothu artist who tries to gain the position of the leader of his group despite this apparent conditioning.
Fans are excited as they are already seeing the movie as a complementary one to Mohanlal’s ‘Vanaprastham’ where we saw a practitioner of a traditional acting form dealing with his intense personal problems.
Elated to launch #JamaFirstLook, a new masterpiece from the visionary producers of #Koozhangal, Best wishes to the team.
