James Bond Villain Joins Apple’s F1 Racing Film Starring Brad Pitt

After starring in Damien Chazelle’s period dark comedy film ‘Babylon’ last year, Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt is gearing up for an upcoming sports movie being directed by Joseph Kosinski. In addition to the existing cast members including Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Tobias Menzies, the makers have now roped in James Bond villain Javier Bardem in an undisclosed role.

In the yet-untitled film, Brad Pitt will be essaying the role of a former Formula One racing driver, whose career was put to a sudden end after a major accident. Later, he comes back from retirement and becomes a mentor to a talented driver (played by Damson Idris) for a fictional F1 team APXGP.

Interestingly, real-life British racing driver and seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton will also serve as one of the film’s producers. The movie’s filming schedule took place a few days back at the British Grand Prix motor race tournament at the Silverstone Circuit.

The addition of Spanish actor Javier Bardem to Brad Pitt’s F1 movie will certainly add more firepower to the film’s cast. The 54-year-old Oscar winning actor is known for his roles as a merciless killer in Coen Brothers’ crime thriller movie ‘No Country for Old Men’, as the main antagonist opposite Daniel Craig in ‘Skyfall’, the sci-fi flick ‘Dune’, ‘Being the Ricardos’ co-starring Nicole Kidman, and most recently in the Disney fantasy film ‘The Little Mermaid’, etc.

The forthcoming F1 movie is being helmed by Joseph Kosinski, who has previously directed Disney’s sci-fi flick ‘TRON: Legacy’, Tom Cruise starrer ‘Oblivion’ and the upcoming ‘Top Gun’ sequel titled ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

Hollywood’s tryst with adrenaline-fueled car racing movies is not new. One of the most recent and also amongst the best car racing films was James Mangold’s ‘Ford vs Ferrari’ (2019) starring Matt Damon (as automotive designer Carroll Shelby) and Christian Bale (as racing engineer and driver Ken Miles) in the lead roles. Interestingly, the film was initially slated to feature Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the lead roles.

Prior to ‘Ford vs Ferrari’, another brilliantly crafted racing movie ‘Rush’ (2013) was helmed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard. The film revolved around the cult rivalry between two Formula One drivers namely Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Bruhl) and Niki Lauda (played by Chris Hemsworth). Now, let’s see if Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One movie will make an impact on the audiences in a big way or not.
