James Cameron Offers Exciting Update On Avatar 3 & 4, Part 4 Will Have A Time Jump

James Cameron has revealed in a recent interview with People magazine that the filming for Avatar 3 has begun. The third part has been in the works since before the theatrical release of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ in December last year, which minted over $2.3 billion globally. The director filmed Avatar 3 & 4 simultaneously with the second part to maintain age continuity among the characters, as Part 4 will have a six-year time jump.

“We see them, and then we go away for six years, and we come back,” Cameron said about Avatar 4. “And so the part where we come back is the part we have not shot yet. So we’ll start on that after three is released.”

Apart from filming Part 3 completely, Cameron has partly shot Part 4, and Part 5 is still untouched.

James Cameron also disclosed that Avatar 3 would be “more straightforward” than the previous entry. He blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for the troubled production of ‘The Way of Water’.

Not much is known about Avatar 3 in terms of plot. Though, the film is expected to introduce a villainous and violent race of Na’vi people, the Ash people. The leader of this race will be Varang, played by the Game of Thrones fame Oona Chaplin.

Avatar 3 was supposed to arrive in theatres in 2024 but got delayed due to the Hollywood strikes. Now, it will come out on December 19, 2025. Avatar 4 will hit the theatres on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. The first two parts of Avatar are available on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
