James Gunn, though a phenomenal director without any question, and if you talk about the superhero genre, he is definitely one of the very bests but has one particular bad habit: Gunn addresses anything and everything that comes his way.
Though some of it addresses the pure curiosity of the fans, some of his replies on threads just kill off the fun of speculations. On the positive side, Gunn manages to stay transparent with his fans, but sometimes, playing the role of a shady cop helps marketing as well.
In recent events, Gunn lets us know that he has completed shooting approximately 18% of Superman, which definitely gives fans an idea about the timeline. But it was paired with one post on threads.
There, Gunn kills off, or we must say brutally murders, the rumors about Superman’s villain in the upcoming film. Previously, though it was confirmed that Lex Luthor would be present in the film, there were some other rumors floating around.
It was being said that Lex would clone Superman and gift us Ultraman as the villain of the film. Originally Bizarro in comics, the clone Superman caused a plethora of trouble for the Man of Steel and was being speculated to be the first hurdle for DC’s new Superman.
But Gunn stated that there is nothing going on like this.
Superman is the main protagonist and Lex Luthor will be the main antagonist of the upcoming film. Though he should have let the rumors float around a bit more, it does a good enough job for advertisement as well. Plus, fans love to speculate. Killing that spirit off causes disinterest from the fans.
So, is this the most intelligent initiative by Gunn? Certainly not.
