The newly established DC Universe, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, is still waiting for its official launch. The franchise will treasure lots of TV shows, movies, video games, and animated entries. However, fans are not sure about which upcoming DC entries share a connection with Gunn and Safran’s DCU, given that many actors from DCEU will be seen in future DCU projects. Several reports have revealed that John Cena’s Peacemaker, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle are a part of DCU now. Fans are struggling to understand what this scenario means, and what entries will be considered a part of ‘canon’ after Superman: Legacy.
Gunn addressed this issue while replying to fans on social media. “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year – a sort of aperitif to the DCU – & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that,” Gunn replied to a fan on Threads.
Creature Commandos will be an adult animated series featuring a black ops team, led by Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) and assembled by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Other members of this faction are Bride of Frankenstein (Indira Varma), Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour), Weasel and G. I. Robot (Sean Gunn), and more. On the other hand, Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will focus on a younger version of the Man of Steel, with David Corenswet donning the red cape.
It is not clear if Gunn and Safran will be able to drop Superman: Legacy in theatres in 2025, considering that the film’s photography is yet to commence due to the actors’ strike. Stay tuned for more updates.
