The duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran is shaping up their upcoming DCU franchise uniquely. We can all tell that Gunn is responsible for creating an ‘out-of-the-box’ first slate for their forthcoming superhero franchise, ‘Gods and Monsters’. Yes, we have familiar characters like Batman in ‘The Brave and the Bold and Superman in ‘Superman: Legacy’. However, there is no sign of Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman in Gunn’s slate. Instead, DC fans will get brand new projects in the form of Swamp Thing, The Authority, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Booster Gold series, Lanterns series, and many more. Amidst this wave of uniqueness, we have Static, a prominent character from Milestone Comics. Yes, Gunn has confirmed that he has plans for the superhero character.
Created by Dwayne McDuffie and John Paul Leon, Static made his comic debut in 1993 via Milestone Comics. However, DC bought Milestone four years later, incorporating the comic’s storylines into the DC Universe. The character has collaborated with prominent superhero factions, such as Teen Titans and the Outsiders.
Apart from this, Static has also partnered with many DC superheroes, most notably with Black Lightning, a superhero with electricity-based powers. The character’s reception has become more positive in recent years, emerging as an important character in DC comics.
Static was not born with powers, but he received his superhero abilities after getting exposed to a radioactive chemical called “Quantum Juice”, giving him powers like electromagnetic manipulation, electrokinesis, electrogenesis, generating electric force fields, energy absorption, and many more.
Will we see Static in Gunn and Safran’s DCU? Only time will tell us. Stay tuned for more updates.
