DC Studios co-chief, James Gunn, has responded to the growing cancellation rumours of The Batman Part 2. Warner Bros greenlighted the sequel after its 2021 predecessor became a critical and commercial success.
If all goes well, The Batman Part 2 will arrive in theatres worldwide on October 3, 2025. However, recent updates about The Batman franchise have intensified the cancellation rumours on social media about the sequel. A fan asked James Gunn about this “conspiracy theory” on Threads, to which the director replied, “No.”
We do not know which exact factors led to the emergence of these rumours. However, many believe Jeffrey Wright’s recent comments about Part 2’s production must have fueled these rumours.
In a recent interview with ET Online, Wright gave a disappointing update about the status of The Batman Part 2’s script. “You’ve seen as much of a script as I have at this point.” The actor’s comments reveal that the cast has not yet read the sequel’s script. His reply made many fans believe that Part 2’s production has been halted or postponed.
Director Matt Reeves is busy developing the spin-off series, The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell. Plus, he will oversee the development of the recently announced Arkham Asylum series. This scenario may have contributed to Part 2’s cancellation rumours. Given everything that has happened in the DC’s Elseworlds Universe in the last few months, it seems like Matt Reeves has a lot on his plate right now.
The Batman Part 2 is expected to have Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, and many more talents. Stay tuned for more updates.
