The reboot of the DC universe is going on with rapid speed, from casting updates to rumors. DC isn’t still back to its glory period, but they are definitely getting ample attention in recent months.
And one of the main centers of that attention is definitely Gunn. With his colorful personality, he is also equipped to give some big headlines and opinionated statements.
Talking on threads, Gunn discusses the concept of Cameo Porn, the act of misusing the craft. In his opinion, this is definitely hurting the superhero genre as it is just turning into a superstar galore and nothing else.
“I call that ‘Cameo Porn’ and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films,” Gunn wrote. “If a character is in a film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise.”
Gunn later added, “I don’t mind actual cameos – if it’s a glimpse or a moment, an Easter egg. What bothers me is when they mangle an elegant story by shoehorning characters in – they aren’t there because the story calls for it, but for some other reason.”
Some might now question the case with Henry Cavill’s last run with DC as he faced off with Black Adam, but that barely led to anything. But WB was at the pilot back then as they didn’t follow it through; it had immense potential.
As DC is approaching its first few projects as a ‘newborn baby,’ it looks more serious than ever. And Gunn manages to restore the faith of the fans, but then comes the question: how much will he be able to achieve?
