Jamie Foxx & Tommy Lee Jones Starrer ‘The Burial’ Gets Female Lead

Academy Award-winning actors Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx are the lead actors for Amazon’s upcoming courtroom drama movie titled ‘The Burial’. And now the film has got its female lead. Primetime Emmy nominee ‘Lovecraft Country’ actress Jurnee Smollett has been roped in to star in the Amazon Studios film.

Being helmed by Maggie Betts, ‘The Burial’ is purportedly based on a true story that revolves around an insolvent funeral homeowner (played by Tommy Lee Jones) who decides to take legal action against a competing businessman after a botched-up handshake deal. For handling the case, he takes the help of a flamboyant lawyer (Jamie Foxx). The film’s underlying premise and the plotline is purportedly based on an article published in The New Yorker written by Jonathan Harr.

Jurnee Smollett is said to ostensibly essay the role of Jamie Foxx’s rival legal counsel in the film. Besides ‘Lovecraft Country’, the 35-year-old actress has previously starred in films such as ‘The Great Debaters’ and ‘Birds of Prey’ and in TV series like ‘Friday Night Lights’, ‘True Blood’ and ‘Underground’, amongst others. Her forthcoming acting projects include the sci-fi actioner ‘Escape from Spiderhead’ co-starring Chris Hemsworth and ‘Birds of Prey’ spin-off ‘Black Canary’.

While Jamie Foxx will next be seen reprising his role as Electro in the Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch starrer highly anticipated superhero movie ‘SpiderMan: No Way Home’. He is also one of the film’s producers. Jamie Foxx’s previous acting credits include ‘Ray’, ‘Collateral’, ‘Django Unchained’, ‘The Amazing SpiderMan 2’, and ‘Baby Driver’, to name a few.
