The first look of ‘Aquaman’ actor Jason Momoa’s upcoming fantasy-adventure film ‘Slumberland’ was revealed by Netflix earlier today. Not one but two first look photos were released by the over-the-top content provider.
One picture showed a sneaking Momoa donning a top hat. While the other image showed Marlow Barkley’s character ‘Nema’ along with Momoa’s character ‘Flip’ (without the hat) with a full set of horns over his head, which was concealed in the former picture.
It was further divulged in the first-look picture-post that the film, an adventure story, will essentially revolve around a young hero (played by Marlow Barkley), who is guided by an eccentric outlaw (played by Jason Momoa) through a secret dream world. The film is slated to release in Netflix sometime in the year 2022, though the exact date of the release is still not known.
Helmed by filmmaker Francis Lawrence, ‘Slumberland’ is reportedly based on the classic comic book series titled ‘Little Nemo in Slumberland’, a creation of American cartoonist Winsor McCay. This is not the first on-screen adaptation of Winsor’s work as the Japanese animated film titled ‘Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland” was released way back in the year 1989. With an estimated budget of $35 million, the film just managed to gross $11.4 million. Nevertheless, it had generally received positive reviews and later went on to become a home-media success.
Jason Momoa, who was initially applauded for essaying the role of Khal Drogo in the cult fantasy-adventure TV show ‘Game of Thrones’, continued his winning streak by featuring in big-budget films like ‘Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Justice League’ and more recently in and as ‘Aquaman’. Momoa’s forthcoming repertoire of films include the sci-fi flick ‘Dune’, western drama ‘The Last Manhunt’ and the action-thriller ‘Sweet Girl’.
‘Slumberland’ is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Francis Lawrence, who is well known for helming films such as: Will Smith’s zombie flick ‘I Am Legend’, ‘The Hunger Games’ series, and the spy-thriller ‘The Red Sparrow’ starring Jennifer Lawrence.
