A few months back, OTT giant Apple TV+ had announced that Blake Crouch’s bestselling science fiction novel ‘Dark Matter’ was being adapted for the small screen in a nine-part series format with Joel Edgerton starring in it. And now, in an important casting update, the series has roped in popular Hollywood actress Jennifer Connelly to share screen space with Joel Edgerton, who is also executive producing the show.
The Oscar winning actress made her acting debut in Sergio Leone’s cult crime movie ‘Once Upon a Time in America’. Later, she starred in several high-profile projects such as Ron Howard’s ‘A Beautiful Mind’, the 2003 superhero movie ‘Hulk’, Leonardo Di Caprio starrer ‘Blood Diamond’, and most recently in Tom Cruise’s aerial blockbuster flick ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. She will essay the role of Daniela, Edgerton’s wife in the upcoming Apple TV+ series ‘Dark Matter’.
The premise of the Apple TV+ series ‘Dark Matter’ is quite intriguing, courtesy the riveting source material. The plotline revolves around a physicist and professor Jason Dessen (played by Joel Edgerton), who gets abducted on Chicago streets while walking back home to his family. The protagonist eventually learns that he has somehow been dragged into an alternate version of his life. Now, he must find a way to get back to his own reality amidst the mind-bending multiverses and save his family from his most terrifying adversary – himself.
The novel’s author Blake Crouch would pen the script for the opening episode and will also act as the series’ showrunner. Belgian filmmaker and Primetime Emmy nominee Jakob Verbruggen (Director – The Alienist, Invasion) will direct the first three episodes of the Apple TV Plus series ‘Dark Matter’.
