Diehard fans of fantasy horror television series ‘Supernatural’ may already be aware of the show’s eagerly anticipated prequel series ‘The Winchesters’ that was announced in June last year. The show’s pilot episode was confirmed by CW earlier this year in February. ‘The Winchesters’ is being executive produced by the parent show’s star Jensen Ackles, who is also executive producing the series.
The untold love story and the daredevil demon-hunting adventures of Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents John and Mary Winchester will be the new show The Winchester’s focal point. And last month, it was announced that Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger will essay the lead roles of Mary Winchester and John Winchester, respectively.
In a recent interview (via TVLine), Jensen Ackles revealed his thoughts and his doubts about making the prequel series. He was initially apprehensive about narrating the Winchester parents’ backstory as the subject had already been touched upon in the ‘Supernatural’ series multiple times during its massive 15-season run.
Jensen Ackles has stated that “To be honest, I was like, I don’t know if we can do this” “and then it took [writer] Robbie [Thompson] and me sitting down going like, ‘Well, we know we have to do this, and we know we have to do that, but if we just connect those dots with a straight line, that’s not entertaining. That’s boring. That’s a simple story. If we connect those dots in a much crazier, wild Supernatural way, then we’ve got a show.’ So that’s what we’ve been doing.”
Exactly how ‘The Winchesters’ will turn out to be and whether the spin-off series will be as successful as the parent show ‘Supernatural’, can only be known after its release. Until now, there has been no confirmation regarding the show’s release date.
