Jewish Matchmaking: Indian Matchmaking Spinoff Coming To Netflix

Netflix’s matchmaking reality series ‘Indian Matchmaking‘ has struck a chord with viewers of every demographic, not just in India but also in western countries. In the series, professional matchmaker Sima Taparia goes around hunting the ideal match for a bunch of young NRI men and women, who’ve failed to get hitched the regular ‘Tinder’ way. Millions tuned in to watch the matchmaking shenanigans on screen, making ‘Indian Matchmaking’ a big hit for Netflix. The successful series has already had two seasons at Netflix, and is soon to return for a Season 3 on 21st April, 2023.

Buoyed by the success of Indian Matchmaking, Netflix has created its spinoff of sorts, but focusing on the Jewish community living in the US and also Israel. The series is titled ‘Jewish Matchmaking’, and it is now gearing up to premiere on Netflix. ‘Jewish Matchmaking’ premieres on Netflix worldwide on 3rd May, 2023.

‘Jewish Matchmaking’ will follow top matchmaker and dating coach, Aleeza Ben Shalom, who has a stellar track record of landing ‘basherts’, or soulmates, for her Jewish clients in both the United States and Israel. Aleeza Ben Shalom has reportedly matchmaker successfully paired 200 Jewish couples in the past, and is now all set to help Jewish youngsters find their soulmates on screen.

Just like matchmaking is a centuries old tradition in India, Jewish people also rely on a practice called ‘shidduchim’ — a matchmaking process rooted in Orthodox Jewish tradition. Using the expert guidance of Aleeza Ben Shalom, and the traditional rootedness of shidduchim, Jewish singles will navigate the the highs and lows of modern courtship in Jewish Matchmaking.

The series comes from the same producers who created Indian Matchmaking. The series will consist of eight 30-minute episodes, featuring a diverse set of people – Orthodox singles who observe the rules of negiah, to Reform and secular U.S. Jews.

‘Jewish Matchmaking’ premieres on Netflix India on 3rd May, 2023.
