Jhini Bini Chadariya Rejected By Platforms Because Of Political Views

The award winning movie ‘Jhini Bini Chadariya’ is getting rejected by OTT platforms because of its political standing. In a country where a movie like ‘Monkey Man’ cannot be released, this is nothing new.

The director Ritesh Sharma took it to X to call this out and said “I’m not shocked to share that our film Jhini Bini Chadariya is still not able to get any platform in any OTT.” The movie came out in 2021 when it premiered at the Tokyo Film Festival. The movie gathered praise from critics and audiences and at the same time managed to win various prestigious awards.

‘Jhini Bini Chadariya’ also known as ‘The Brittle Thread’ tells the story of Varanasi and of communal harmony. It chronicles the story of two people of two separate religions: one saree weaver and one orchestral dancer.

Ritesh Sharma has said, the OTT platforms had similar response for the film, and said, “We aren’t in the position of acquiring a film which explores political matters.” While it is sad for independent filmography we can see big studio films with outrageously opinionated political stances getting grabbed by platforms. The controversy works in their favour, but a well executed award winning film can get no place on OTT.
