While his debut film ‘Pizza’ was a success, Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj hit the big time with his second film, ‘Jigarthanda‘. The comedy gangster film ‘Jigarthanda’ achieved blockbuster status and established Karthik Subbaraj in the big league of Tamil filmmakers.
Today marks eight years since Tamil film ‘Jigarthanda’ hit theatres. Karthik Subbaraj, writer-director of the film, uploaded a short recap video of the action comedy film on his social media handles to mark the occasion. But tucked away at the end of the video was a surprise – the big reveal! Fans of Jigarthanda will be delighted to know that the sequel of the film is in development. Jigarthanda 2 is in pre-production – at the writing stage at present, and will soon go into production. Karthik Subbaraj announced the news on his Twitter.

Jigarthanda is a unique action comedy and gangster flick that was said to be inspired by Korean film, ‘A Dirty Carnival’. It features Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Lakshmi Menon, Karunakaran and Guru Somasundaram in crucial roles. The recent Akshay Kumar starrer, ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ is a remake of sorts of Jigarthanda.
