One of the greatest comedic actors in Hollywood, Jim Carrey, is “fairly serious” about taking retirement or a break from acting right after the theatrical release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The Mask, Ace Ventura, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fame thinks that he has done “enough” work and may take a permanent break from acting soon.
In a recent talk with Access Hollywood, Carrey revealed his feelings about retirement: “Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”
Apart from his acting duties, the Hollywood star is a talented painter and likes to spend his life quietly and spiritually.
Carrey has bagged a couple of Golden Globes for his outstanding performances in The Truman Show (1999) and Man on the Moon (2000). Despite getting nominated for BAFTA and Golden Globes, he has not yet received a single Academy Award nomination. The Guardian also hailed him as one of the best Hollywood performers who never got a single Oscar nomination.
However, Carrey’s personal life is not as shiny as his professional one. He suffers from depression and even consumed Prozac to tackle it. One of the actor’s former partners, Cathriona White, died in September 2015 due to a drug overdose. And her husband Mark Burton blamed Carrey for her death. The former alleged that the star used his wealth and stardom for introducing White to those illegal drugs. However, the LA County Medical Examiner ruled her tragic demise a suicide.
Fans will see Jim Carrey returning as the evil Dr Robotnik in Paramount’s upcoming project, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Apart from him, we have James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, and many more talented performers. It will hit the theatres on April 8.
