It’s a well-known fact that OTT platform Jio Cinema has been aggressively reinventing its content portfolio: right from streaming the massively popular IPL 2023 cricket tournament for free to acquiring premium HBO titles like ‘Succession’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, and later Peacock’s global content, etc. But since a few months, there has been a noticeable drop in the numbers of mainstream / popular films and shows. Now, let’s see how many of the titles which streamed during the month of November clicked with the audience.
We have compiled a list of the popular Indian titles which were released on Jio Cinema in November along with their ‘Hit’, ‘Semi-Hit’, ‘Miss’ or ‘Super-Hit’ status. ‘Hit’ implies good title acquisition (based on popularity and/or critical reception), ‘Miss’ signifies a not-so-good title acquisition, ‘Semi-Hit’ signifies a not-too-bad / not-too-good title acquisition, and ‘Super-Hit’ implies a highly successful title acquisition by Jio Cinema (one bonus ‘Hit’ point given for ‘Super-Hit’ titles with total no. of titles remaining as per actual and half hit point given to ‘Semi-Hit’ titles).
Bigg Boss 17 (Ongoing Reality Show) – Super-Hit
Samosa And Sons (Film, Licensed) – Miss
Who Am I? (Film, Licensed) – Miss
Rabia And Olivia (Film, Licensed) – Semi-Hit
Temptation Island Indian (Ongoing Reality Show) – Hit
India Vs Australia T20 Series – Super-Hit
Licensed Films
In the month of November 2023, three films namely ‘Samosa and Sons’, ‘Rabia and Olivia’ and ‘Who Am I?’ were mainly released on Jio Cinema. Although these films may have apparently found their target viewers (for those who are fond of watching something different), they couldn’t create a lot of buzz for understandable reasons. Except perhaps ‘Rabia and Olivia’ to a certain extent. Other than that, no major Indian licensed film title was released on the Jio Cinema OTT platform.
Web Series
On the web series front, in the month of November for Jio Cinema, not even a single fiction web series was released on the OTT platform. So, nothing there this month for Jio Cinema.
Direct-to-OTT Films
As mentioned above, in the month of November 2023, Jio Cinema didn’t have any major direct-to-OTT film which was released on its OTT platform.
Sports / Reality Shows / Others
Like last month, the seventeenth season of the immensely popular ongoing reality show Bigg Boss once again turned out to be a Super-Hit for Jio Cinema in November. This season too is being hosted by superstar Salman Khan and features some popular celebrities and well-known people like Ankita Lokhande, Munawar Faruqui, and Jigna Vohra.
Another highlight for Jio Cinema for November was the ongoing five-match India-Australia T20 series which commenced on 23rd November and the final match will be played on 3rd December. The series happened just a few days after India’s heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup 2023. Belying all expectations, Jio Cinema reported some whopping number of views on its streaming platform for the T20 cricket series, which has been a massive hit for the OTT giant.
Another title which had some impact during the month was the Indian adaptation of the popular global reality dating show ‘Temptation Island India’ hosted by Mouni Roy and Karan Kundrra. The show seemed to have found its audience on OTT.
So, overall, there was one ‘Semi-Hit’, two ‘Misses’, one ‘Hit’, and two ‘Super-Hits’ for Jio Cinema for the month of November 2023. The main highlights which dominated the month of November on Jio Cinema were ‘Bigg Boss 17’ and the India Vs Australia T20 cricket series.
Jio Cinema November 2023 Success Score = 92% = 92/100
