It’s a well-known fact that OTT platform Jio Cinema has been aggressively reinventing its content portfolio: right from streaming the massively popular IPL 2023 cricket tournament for free to acquiring premium HBO titles like ‘Succession’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, and later Peacock’s global content, etc. Now, let’s see how many of the titles which streamed during the month of October clicked with the audience.
We have compiled a list of the popular (mostly Indian) titles which were released on Jio Cinema in October along with their ‘Hit’, ‘Semi-Hit’, ‘Miss’ or ‘Super-Hit’ status. ‘Hit’ implies good title acquisition (based on popularity and/or critical reception), ‘Miss’ signifies a not-so-good title acquisition, ‘Semi-Hit’ signifies a not-too-bad / not-too-good title acquisition, and ‘Super-Hit’ implies a highly successful title acquisition by Jio Cinema (one bonus ‘Hit’ point given for ‘Super-Hit’ titles with total no. of titles remaining as per actual and half hit point given to ‘Semi-Hit’ titles).

National Games of India 2023 (Sports) – Semi-Hit

Licensed Films
In the month of September, Jio Cinema started showcasing some short films as part of the Jio Cinema Film Festival, which continued in October as well. In this month, a number of short films were released. Although these films may have apparently found their target viewers, those who are fond of watching short films or something different, they couldn’t create a lot of buzz for understandable reasons.
Other than that, no major Indian licensed film title was released on the Jio Cinema OTT platform. ‘The Daughter’, ‘Murakh’, and ‘Guspaith’ attracted some attention because of their talented cast.
Web Series
On the web series front, in the month of October for Jio Cinema, not even a single fiction web series was released on the OTT platform. So, nothing there this month for Jio Cinema.
Direct-to-OTT Films / Sports / Others
As mentioned above, in the month October 2023, Jio Cinema didn’t have any major direct-to-OTT film which was released on its OTT platform.
However, the 2023 edition of the National Games of India started streaming on the OTT platform during the month. But since the sports event has a niche target audience (diehard sports buffs) and because it was telecast on YouTube, the event wasn’t a very big hit for the OTT platform.
Besides, the Syed Mushtaq Ali cricket tournament was also streaming on the platform but considering the World Cup 2023 fever, the former didn’t get a lot of traction. That’s why we haven’t mentioned it above.
But one thing which turned out to be a Super-Hit for Jio Cinema in October was the seventeenth season of the immensely popular reality show Bigg Boss. This season too is being hosted by superstar Salman Khan and features some popular celebrities and well-known people like Ankita Lokhande, Munawar Faruqui, and Jigna Vohra. So, Bigg Boss 17 was undoubtedly the major highlight for the OTT giant for the month of October.
So, overall, there were four ‘Semi-Hits’, seven ‘Misses’, and one ‘Super-Hit’ title for Jio Cinema for the month of October 2023. The main highlight for the month of September was the India Vs Australia cricket series, which, in a way, saved the day for the OTT giant.
Jio Cinema October 2023 Success Score = 33% = 33/100
