For the past few months, there have been a lot of speculations about the launch of the Paramount Plus streaming service and its content for the streaming audiences in India. Earlier, it was reported that Paramount was planning to not move forward with launching the Paramount streaming service as a dedicated OTT platform in India. Instead, the media and entertainment conglomerate was focusing on enhancing its content partnership with and selling more programming to the recently revamped Jio Cinema streaming service.
And now, Paramount Plus content is now available on the Jio Cinema mobile and web apps through a separate hub. And keeping in line with its earlier strategy, Jio Cinema offers Paramount+ titles only on a subscription basis like its other two foreign programming content hubs namely Peacock and HBO. Earlier, Paramount+ originals were made available on Jio Cinema but now they have been put in a separate hub.
So, after the launch of a separate Paramount+ hub on the Jio Cinema OTT platform, Indian audiences would be able to watch films and series (through this dedicated hub) such as ‘Bumblebee’, ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ starring Tom Cruise, amongst other titles.
It is pertinent to mention here that Paramount currently holds a stake of 13% in Viacom 18, Jio Cinema’s parent company. As of now, Jio Cinema is offering Hollywood content from HBO and Peacock at a premium subscription cost of Rs.999/- per annum. And now the Paramount Plus hub has also been added to this offering through a separate hub.
