Jio Cinema has just dropped the trailer for its upcoming Tamil film ‘Appatha’. The Priyadarshin directed film has decided to skip theatres and release directly on streaming. ‘Appatha’ will premiere on Jio Cinema on 29th July, 2023, which is this Saturday.
Tamil film ‘Appatha’ stars veteran Malayalam actress Urvasi in the lead role. The film will mark the 700th film for Urvasi in her glittering career. The trailer for ‘Appatha’ promises a heartwarming film that will make viewers laugh and cry at the same time. Urvasi plays Kanamma, aka the titular Appatha, in the film. She’s lived all her life in the village of Kaayilanpatti. Kanamma is a lively old woman, who lives alone, runs a flourishing pickle-making business, and has only one real fear in life – the fear of dogs.
Kanamma goes to live with her estranged son in the city. Despite knowing her fear of dogs, her son goes on a vacation with his family, leaving Kanamma at home to look after the family dog, Zeus. The story of ‘Appatha’ centres on how the relationship between Kanamma and Zeus moves from a love-hate one to one of love and caring.
The story of ‘Appatha’ is written by Hardik Gajjar, and its screenplay has been written by Priyadarshan and Deepthi Govindarajan. ‘Appatha’ is presented by Jio Studios, and produced by Wide Angle Creations Production, Suresh Balaje and George Pius.
