Jio Hotstar knows pretty damn well that it’s cricket which keeps the viewers coming back to it. And to keep up with that spirit, the streamer has now acquired the exclusive streaming rights for India’s upcoming Test series against England starting June 20, 2025 at Leeds, as per the latest reports.
The news comes in while the IPL 2025 is still going on and whose final match will be held on June 3rd, 2025.
Reports suggest that there had been ongoing negotiations between Sony and Jio Star for the past month and they have finally reached to an agreement now. While Jio Hotstar will have the digital rights according to the deal, Sony will retain the satellite rights for the series.
It is also believed that this agreement between Sony and Jio Star isn’t limited to this forthcoming India-England Test series from June 20-July 31, but extends to next year’s white ball series as well. India is poised to play 3 one day internationals and 5 T20Is in England in summer of 2026, and all these matches will likely be available on Jio Hotstar.
While other streamers in India juggle with good and bad content, earning praise for some and bearing the brunt for others, Jio Hotstar has adapted a totally different yet wise strategy where it is using it’s funds to get their hands on cricket streaming rights that is bound to attract Indian viewers given their massive love for the game.
Not that Jio Hotstar hasn’t got some promising original stuff coming up like Criminal Justice Season 4 and Special Ops Season 2, the platform knows nothing works as good as cricket in India.
