It seems like Joey King has secured some sort of a life-long contract with Netflix. The Kissing Booth fame is all set to appear as Tally Youngblood in ‘Uglies’, the streamer’s upcoming adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s 2005 sci-fi novel. Netflix has released the movie’s trailer and release window.
The latest trailer shows King as Tally Youngblood, a teenager on the verge of becoming a 16-year-old. Living in a post-scarcity dystopian world, Tally, like any other teenager, is considered “Ugly”. Teenagers in this world are deemed “Ugly” until they undergo drastic plastic surgery to become “Pretty.” As Tally approaches her sixteenth birthday, she’s on the brink of this transformation. But her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a group of rebels who challenge the superficial beauty standards of her world.
Netflix’s ‘Uglies’ is helmed by Joseph McGinty Nichol, better known as McG, whose credits include Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation, and This Means War. The writer/director is prominent for his frequent collaborations with the streaming giant, working on Rim of the World, The Babysitter, and Family Switch. The screenplay is penned by Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson.
Apart from Joey King, the upcoming feature adaptation stars Keith Powers, Brianne Tju, Laverne Cox, Chase Stokes, and many more talents.
‘Uglies’ is set to premiere on Netflix on September 13. Stay tuned for more updates. Watch the trailer below!
