‘Jogi’ Trailer, Release Date, Streaming Platform, Cast, Plot

Indian filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar has previously helmed some masala entertainers such as ‘Gunday’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ besides the political drama series ‘Tandav’ for Amazon Prime Video. And he has now forayed into a rather unfamiliar territory with Netflix’s upcoming film ‘Jogi’.

Headlined by popular actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh (Udta Punjab, Soorma), the Netflix film ‘Jogi’ features a talented cast that includes the likes of Amyra Dastur, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, Hiten Tejwani, and Kumud Mishra, amongst others. Just a few minutes back, the OTT platform has launched the film’s official trailer (attached below).

The trailer starts off with a regular family banter of a Delhi-based Sikh family on 31st October 1984. Diljit Dosanjh stars in and as Jogi. Cut to some gunshot sounds and riots in Delhi following which the protagonist Jogi is beaten because of being a Sikh. Thereafter, the Jogi takes up the daredevil task of transporting a large group of people from Delhi to Mohali. The proceedings are quite intense, and the trailer gives us an idea about the movie’s hard-hitting theme and its emotionally charged tone.

Previously, a few films have been made on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The list includes Konkona Sen Sharma starrer ‘Amu’, ‘31st October’ starring Soha Ali Khan and Vir Das, and ‘Punjab 1984’ (also starring Diljit Dosanjh), amongst others.

Coming back to the upcoming Netflix film ‘Jogi’, it’s set in the year 1984 in the capital city Delhi against the brutal backdrop of the anti-Sikh riots that erupted in the city following the assassination of the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards, who were Sikhs.

The film’s underlying plotline revolves around how three friends who belong to different faiths team up to save many people in their city and is touted to be a tale of bravery, friendship, hope and everything in between. ‘Jogi’ is slated to start streaming on the Netflix OTT platform from 16th September onwards.
