John Krasinski Sells His Viral Show ‘Some Good News’ to ViacomCBS, Fans Unhappy

By Rashmi Paharia - May 24, 2020 @ 10:05 am

John Krasinski Some Good News Viacom CBSMillions of John Krasinsky fans are upset with the news that the star has sold his viral feel-good show ‘Some Good News‘ to ViacomCBS. In their unhappiness with the development, they have even gone as far as to say that the actor has sold out to big money.

John Krasinsky’s viral YouTube show ‘Some Good News’ brought shimmering spots of sunshine in the otherwise gloomy Coronavirus-afflicted world. Called SGN for short, the series began life on YouTube as a feel-good offering from Krasinsky to dispel the despair of a world caught in a never-seen-before situation. Very soon, Some Good News had turned into a viral show, with millions of viewers tuning in to partake of its delights.

Amidst all the depressing news of death and disease swirling around us in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, John Krasinski’s Some Good News or SGN, brought in much-needed cheer to the world. The show immediately attracted millions of views and 2 million subscribers on its YouTube channel.

John Krasinsky, star of The Office, Jack Ryan, and A Quiet Place, believed that the world is already in the midst of troubled times, and needed more positive news that would spread good cheer instead of gloom. So SGN brought heart-touching positive news from around the world, the kind that warmed the cockles of every heart. Written, bankrolled and hosted by John Krasinsky himself, SGN also had scores of celebrity guests attending remotely, including the cast of The Office, Disney’s upcoming flick Hamilton, and many more.

Consisting of 15-25 minute episodes, the show had a run of eight weekly episodes, before taking a break this week.

And then came news that John Krasinsky has sold the IP to ViacomCBS. He will not return as host when the series resumes, though he will continue to be associated with the series in the capacity of executive producer.

Fans have accused Krasinsky of selling out what is essentially a show that they believe should steer clear of monetary and materialistic considerations. Krasinsky disclosed recently that he had been inundated with offers from top broadcasting companies, since the time the first episode of SGN went viral.

And now that he’s made the decision to sell to ViacomCBS, fans must get ready to watch SGN in a different avatar, with a different host. SGN at ViacomCBS is better than having no SGN at all. What say?
