Mr. Wick is always punctual, but the makers aren’t, at least that’s what the recent set of events states. The Wick franchise is now spreading its wings. Though it has always been a financial success, unlike other franchises, John Wick manages to take some big intervals, and focusing on a spin-off will definitely shorten the gap, managing a stronger grip on the market.
But now even “Ballerina” manages to get slapped with a delay.
Previously, it was announced that “Ballerina” would be released on June 7th, 2024, but it is now deceased with another year-long delay and will now be releasing on June 6th, 2025.
Now, talking about why the delay happened.
Lionsgate’s “Ballerina” faces a year-long delay as it undergoes additional action sequences helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, collaborating with director Len Wiseman. The studio prioritizes quality over haste, confident in The Crow’s readiness for release. Hurrying to push “Ballerina” into theaters isn’t a good decision right now.
Packing more action into the film will definitely give it a better kick and will also justify its existence in the John Wick universe.
The film will center around Ana de Armas as she turns into an assassin under the influence of Ruska Roma, who managed to take John Wick in during the fourth installment of the franchise.
Besides Armas, there are other faces such as Gabriel Byrne, Anjelica Huston, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and the late Lance Reddick.
Most of the film was shot during 2022, so there is definitely some considerable delay, but if Lionsgate and Stahelski check the boxes, they definitely have a female-led action film that can be a gem.
