After winning his defamation suit against Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is receiving tons of love and support from all around the world. Following the actor’s win, a former Disney executive strongly believes that Depp will return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as the one and only Jack Sparrow. The jury awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages to the actor. On the other hand, Heard received $2 million in compensatory damages. Depp thanked all his supporters via a heartfelt open note which he shared through his Instagram account. However, the Aquaman actress didn’t take the decision lightly and declared it as a setback for women.
In a recent interview with People, the unknown former Disney executive said, “I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board. “There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture. With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises.”
Apart from Depp’s highly anticipated POTC return, several rumours about Margot Robbie’s involvement in the future POTC entry also surfaced online sometime ago. Many believe that the Harley Quinn actress may portray the role of Jack Sparrow’s daughter in that project.
Johnny Depp has worked on numerous Disney projects including Alice in Wonderland, The Lone Ranger, Into the Woods, and Alice Through the Looking Glass in addition to his work in the POTC franchise. But there is no denying that Jack Sparrow is his most prominent role ever. And now, he has the support of the public. Fans desperately want him to give another shot at playing the legendary drunk pirate.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) helped Johnny Depp in bagging his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He last appeared in Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) as Captain Jack Sparrow.
