Johnny Depp To Appear In Tim Burton Documentary Series

The on-screen Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp, will appear in an upcoming documentary series, exploring the decade-spanning and legendary filmmaking career of Tim Burton. According to Deadline, the four-part docuseries will feature interviews with notable actors, such as Helena Bonham Carter, Winona Ryder, Danny Elfman, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Christopher Walken, Christoph Waltz, and Mia Wasikowska, apart from Depp. Netflix’s Wednesday fame, Jenna Ortega, is also a part of this forthcoming project.

Helmed by Tara Wood, the untitled Tim Burton docuseries will head to Cannes Market. Wood Entertainment is set to take care of sales at Cannes.

The forthcoming documentary will be “an otherworldly, dream journey into the mind” of the man responsible for directing several iconic Hollywood flicks, like Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Batman, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, and many more. His latest television series on Netflix, Wednesday, became a global sensation upon its release and shattered several viewership records.

The official logline of the series states: “The documentary explores how Burton brings his vision to life through his own joyous idiosyncrasy and his ability to meld the ominous and the frightful with a sense of whimsy. Tim’s films are just the tip of the iceberg.”

The docuseries will encompass several never-before-seen backstage clips of Tim Burton, along with interviews with the director’s favorite performers. His collaborations with Johnny Depp are most notable. Edward Scissorhands (1990) marked their first collaboration with each other. And their last collaboration was Dark Shadows (2012), which received mixed reviews and flopped at the box office.

It seems like Johnny Depp is all set to make a return to the world of acting after the culmination of his highly-publicized courtroom drama with his ex-wife and actress, Amber Heard, who will be seen in DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, scheduled to hit the theaters on December 20. On the other hand, Tim Burton has commenced the production of Beetlejuice 2, featuring Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Bellucci. It will release on September 6, 2024.
