Matt Reeves’ The Batman is currently running well in theatres. Warner Bros has already revealed that Robert Pattinson’s Batverse franchise will get two more additions. And HBO Max will deliver a spinoff tv series based on the Gentleman of Crime, Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin in future. In addition to all these things, the studio is also working on Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker sequel. However, the latest update about the upcoming DC project may end up disappointing you. Here’s what we know about Joker 2 so far!
Prominent American entertainment news platform, The Ankler, has disclosed that the scriptwriting procedure for Joker 2 has slowed down a bit. No one knows what is going on with Todd Phillips and his team these days. The Hangover series helmer has not yet submitted a draft of the second Joker entry. Several rumours hint at the commencement of the sequel’s filming in early 2023. However, the release window may change if this situation goes on for a long time.
Phoenix’s Joker movie focuses strictly on Arthur Fleck’s origin story. The more he learns about his disturbing past, the more he begins to unleash his true self, the fusion of a criminal mastermind and a homicidal maniac. As per various reports, it does not share any connection to Reeves’ Batverse. Both these franchises are not related to each other. Also, the Batverse has found a new Clown Prince of Gotham City in the form of Barry Keoghan. The Batman fans witnessed the Irish actor portraying a ghastly and sinister version of Joker in the recently released deleted footage from the movie.
It is impossible to even imagine Joker 2 without Joaquin Phoenix. The Academy Award-winning actor will be a part of the upcoming sequel. Although, we may not see Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy as their respective characters died in the film. Furthermore, Zazie Beetz’s involvement in the project has not been confirmed by the studio. We can expect the Joker sequel to hit the theatres in 2024.
