The surprisingly funny trailer for the upcoming Judd Apatow feature film, The Bubble, dropped on social media last night… and it was brilliantly absurd. The Bubble will be Judd Apatow’s first collaboration with Netflix and it looks like the streaming conglomerate might just have hit cinematic (comedy) gold. Netflix has been signing on brilliant filmmakers to their side for a few years now, and so far, they have been paying off. However, Judd Apatow’s The Bubble, will show why the streaming platform is able to attract major Hollywood (and international) talent over its competition.
Getting the signatures of brilliant content creators such as Shonda Rhimes and David Dincher was the first step, but Netflix stepped it up by getting the signature of major movie stars such as Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Charlize Theron, etc. While Apple TV+, Disney+ and Amazon Prime have started to do the same, most of the biggest talent is going to Netflix and after the reception of Bridgerton, Red Notice, Mindhunter, Mank and many others – it shows that the OTT conglomerate helps filmmakers and artists to showcase their best work.
The above-mentioned trailer is based on a cast and crew that is currently working on a fictional film called Cliff Beasts 6. The movie is shot during October 2020, which means they have to work during Covid-19 conditions and are hence, stuck in a bubble – which is where the film gets its title from. While the coronavirus pandemic has been hell for all kinds of businesses everywhere, OTTs are some of the few that survived Covid-19. However, the entire market didn’t just survive but also thrived. More than half the planet stayed at home with no mode of entertainment besides these streaming platforms. And Netflix was one of the biggest benefactors of that.
Judd Apatow‘s highly anticipated multi-starring comedy will premiere on Netflix on April Fool’s Day, 1st April 2022.
