It’s indeed shocking news for Netflix Binge-watchers. Jupiter’s Legacy, the streaming platform’s first original superhero saga based on the characters created by Mark Miller and Frank Quitely, got cancelled within only one month of premiering the first season on Netflix. Instead, Netflix along with Miller is working on a new series Supercrooks, which will be a new super villain-themed content set in the same universe of Jupiter’s Legacy.
Earlier today we have learnt that even when the first season was ended on a cliffhanger, the creators will not be going ahead with the story as they will be focusing on this ‘Supercrooks’ series which will be an anime version of the comics revolving around Johnny Bolt who recruits a group of thieves with unnatural abilities to pull off an ultimate heist.
It’s still unclear why the makers cancelled the Jupiter’s Legacy series so early, even when the series topped the Netflix Top 10 charts in a number of countries including India and China. Mark Miller himself took to twitter today to share the official statement with fans saying that they’ve made a tough call of letting the incredible cast out of their show commitment as the makers will continue to develop all realms of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga. He also added, “We’re confident we’ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.”
The story of Jupiter’s Legacy was reportedly influenced by Star Wars, King Kong and Roman mythology. The story revolves around the story of the world’s first superheroes who received their powers in the 1930s & their super-powered children in the present days, who are struggling to live up to the legendary feats of their parents.
Josh Duhamel, of Transformers fame, along with Leslie Bibb, featured in this Netflix series along with Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade and Matt Lanter. Jupiter’s Legacy was created by Steven S. DeKnight.
You can still go ahead and watch the series on Netflix while it’s still there. Do check out the official statement by Mark Miller on Jupiter’s Legacy cancellation here:
