Jurassic World Franchise Should End For Good After Dominion

Viewers have watched plenty of movies from the Jurassic Park franchise. But none of them ever reached the heights like the original entry (1993) did. Also, some of them degraded the franchise instead of improving it. The Lost World (1997) might have served as a worthy sequel at that time. Still, it had a lot of flaws. And the third Jurassic Park instalment (2001) ended up sucking out the soul of the original trilogy. Now, Jurassic World Dominion is ready to hit the theatres next week. The leading man, Chris Pratt, already has revealed that the franchise will end after Dominion. And it should. Here’s why!

The first entry in the Jurassic franchise was nothing short of a global sensation. Apart from proving himself one of the best directors of all time, Steven Spielberg dropped the jaws of the moviegoers with the help of breathtaking visuals, top-notch performances, and John Williams’ mesmerising musical score. But the sequels that arrived after the original entry felt like inferiors to the overall franchise. Spielberg waited for four long years to dispatch The Lost World. And the movie proved how hard it is even for a director like Spielberg to bestow a compelling sequel.

Universal refuelled the franchise with Jurassic World in 2015. This Colin Trevorrow flick kicked off the Jurassic World trilogy in a grand style. Although, it was unable to hide its shortcomings. Nevertheless, it collected more than $1.6 billion at the global box office. Then came its sequel, Fallen Kingdom. Let’s just say that this J.A. Bayona project somehow carried the curse of The Lost World. It possessed large-scale thrills and visuals. But it also suffered from the lack of a solid plot.

Now, all eyes are on Jurassic World Dominion. And it treasures tons of action, characters, and nostalgia. Just look at all of its trailers. It seems like the makers have recycled all the important elements of previous instalments to make Dominion. But we cannot deny that this trick will do the job for Universal. The franchise has a huge fan following. And the fans are already on cloud nine after seeing the trio of Dr Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and Dr Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) in the trailers.

“For how long Universal can continue the Jurassic World franchise?” Well, the answer to this question depends upon the studio’s mentality. They can keep making more Jurassic World projects as the franchise brings the studio a lot of money. However, many believe that the franchise should end for good after Dominion. It has run its course. And we highly doubt that it still has something mindblowing to offer to viewers. But Universal is not going to let go of this franchise easily. They are not that ‘stupid’. Plus, the studio doesn’t have lots of prominent movie franchises as compared to studios like Warner Bros, Disney, etc. Apart from Jurassic World, Fast & Furious is the only Universal franchise that guarantees to bring in millions.

Outside the box office collections, the Jurassic World franchise is an absolute beastie, thanks to its vigorous merchandising. We can throw toys, VODs, theme parks, clothes, and video games related to the film series into this mess. Plus, the studio’s deal with Peacock will force it to constantly deliver entertaining projects. If the makers can drop dinosaurs into the real world (thanks to Dominion), they can do whatever they want with future projects. In other words, there is no limit to their imagination now.
