Amazon Prime Video has done it again! After similar issues with the Kunal Kapoor murder mystery “Koi Jaane Na” and Tovino Thomas’ “Kala”, the streamer has yanked another just-released film off its platform without any notice. The movie in question is the Malayalam film, “Anugraheethan Antony“. The film has been unavailable for viewing since this afternoon, or maybe even earlier. Interestingly, it premiered on Amazon Prime Video in India just 4 days ago. And poof, it has disappeared without a trace from the streaming platform.
Also, just like in the case of Kala and Koi Jaane Na, Amazon Prime Video has given no reason for the pulling of the film from streaming. Viewers who log on to Amazon Prime Video in hopes of watching Anugraheethan Antony realise that the film has been pulled from the platform by Amazon Prime Video. Viewers who search for the film by name are greeted with the message – “We couldn’t find anything matching Anugraheethan Antony”.
Those subscribers who had downloaded the film on their app to watch later, are met with the message, “This video is currently unavailable”. A number of Amazon Prime Video subscribers have taken to Twitter to enquire of Amazon Prime Video about the unavailability of the film. Some have even complained that they were half-way through watching the film when it was simply yanked off the platform.
Malayalam films are enjoying a great resurgence on OTT — a number of them have become runaway hits on streaming platforms. Additionally, Anugraheethan Antony has received a positive word-of-mouth from social media users, leading to a number of viewers hoping to watch the film this weekend. But alas, they will not be able to watch the film, not unless Amazon Prime Video brings it back to streaming on its platform.
Anugraheethan Antony is a delightful family drama, directed by Prince Joy, and starring Sunny Wayne, Gouri Kishan, Siddique, Indrans, Suraj Venjaramood and Baiju Santhosh.
