Soon after the trailer release of 83, it has received a humongous response from people. Making films/series on sports is not a tradition in India. It is a very recent tradition that started as late as the late 2000s. Chak De India was the game-changer that made people believe in the potential of a sports-based film.
Another huge sports achievement of the 1983 World Cup Win is coming to theatres. In the next Kabir Khan film 83, Ranveer Singh will play the then Cricket team captain Kapil Dev.
So here’s our recommendation about Indian sports achievement/personalities that must be filmed.
Viswanathan Anand
Viswanathan Anand is undoubtedly a gem. He is a former chess champion and a grandmaster too. He became a grandmaster in 1988. Also became world chess champion 5 times. He is a highly decorated person who has numerous achievements in his career. It will be too big an opportunity to miss if India misses making a film/series on him.
Karnam Malleswari
Karnam Malleswari is the first Indian woman to stand on an Olympic podium. She won a bronze medal in Weightlifting in 1999. When she started then she had no Indian woman to look upon in Olympics. She started the journey and proved to the Indian society that girls can win medals in Olympics.
Abhinav Bindra
India’s first Individual Gold medal at the Olympics came as recently as 2008. In the air rifle competition, Bindra won a gold medal in Beijing. That was a huge achievement for India and Bindra did really change history.
Leander Paes
Former tennis player Leander Paes is one of the greatest tennis players in doubles. He has eight men’s doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles in his bag. He won Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 1996 and is one of the biggest sports faces in India. He is the only tennis player to compete in 7 consecutive Olympics from 1992-2016.
Sunil Chhetri
Due to the unfortunate less mass appeal of Indian football, we fail to celebrate the gem Sunil Chhetri. He is an incredibly talented man who holds the record of a second highest goal scorer. He is behind the one and only Christiano Ronaldo and shares his position with Lionel Messi.
He is the most prominent one why Indian fans wait for football. It is high time we make a film to celebrate the man who deserves to be celebrated.
By the way, 83 is getting released in theatres on 24th December. When will the films on these personalities come?
