Close on the heels of Beyoncé’s mega-deal with Netflix for the docuseries on her life, comes news about superstar singer Justin Bieber’s docuseries premiering on the video-streaming platform. Justin Bieber has inked a deal with YouTube that is upwards of $20 million for the 10-part series.
The series will premiere on YouTube on 27th January 2020, and will drop two episodes per week, one on Monday and another on Wednesday.
The docuseries, titled Justin Bieber: Seasons, will cover the comeback trail of the singer. He is releasing an album after four years of an enforced hiatus. It will showcase Bieber’s process of rediscovering himself through his music, creating new music and his motivation for his new album. His story is told through his wife Hailey, managers Scooter Braun and Allison Kaye, and other close confidants, friends and Bieber himself.
It will also have segments that will chronicle the singer’s struggle with depression and drug abuse, and the cost of earning staggering fame at an early age.
The YouTube series is like life coming full circle for the singer, as YouTube was where he first found fame. Bieber said in a statement to the media, “When I was getting started, YouTube provided me a platform and a community where I could share music, experiences and moments with my fans. It feels great to partner with YouTube for this original documentary series. I want my fans to be part of this journey.”
“Justin Bieber: Seasons” is directed and executive produced by OBB Pictures’ Michael D. Ratner, while it is produced by Bieber Time Films, SB Projects and OBB Pictures.
This is the largest amount spent by YouTube Original Content to acquire a series for streaming on its platform.
Catch the docuseries on YouTube from 27th January.
