The adeptly executed sports drama movie ‘83’ starring Ranveer Singh falls under the category of those films which garner immense critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike, but, for certain reasons, fail to ignite the Indian box office. After premiering in Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival on 15th December 2021, ‘83’ eventually made its way to the Indian theatres during the Christmas holiday period on 24th December 2021.
There is an exciting update for movie buffs who couldn’t watch the cricket-based film in cinemas amidst the ongoing pandemic scare. Because as per the latest buzz, ‘83’ movie is expected to commence streaming on the Netflix OTT platform on 18th February 2022, that is, precisely eight weeks after the film’s theatrical release in India.
Not just that, as per the industry trackers, besides streaming on Netflix, ’83’ movie is also expected to stream on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform on the same date. The film will ostensibly be released in the Hindi language on Netflix and in other languages on Disney+ Hotstar. However, nothing yet has been officially confirmed regarding the film’s OTT release date and platform from the concerned stakeholders.
‘83’ movie showcases the Indian cricket team’s historic victory at the 1983 cricket world cup. Ranveer Singh essayed the role of the Indian cricket team’s legendary captain Kapil Dev and portrays his and his teammates’ incredible journey from being an underdog team to lifting the world cup by beating the formidable West Indians at the Lords Cricket Ground on 25th June 1983.
The film received unanimous praise for its direction by Kabir Khan, lead performances, and other technical aspects. Each of the actors essaying the roles of Indian cricket players had brilliantly embraced their body language, etc.
