Devi stands apart from the clutter for two reasons – one is its spectacular ensemble cast, comprising some of the best female performers across generations. Kajol, Shruti Hassan, Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashaswini Dayama make up the primary cast.
The second reason that makes the film a compelling proposition is its premise – nine women from diverse class, background and strata of society come together under one roof. And surprisingly, all nine have faced violence in the form of the most horrific crime against women, regardless of age or class.
Shared Kajol, “I couldn’t have chosen a better subject than Devi for my first short film. It’s a poignant film, one that needs to be shared with the world, especially today.”
Shruti Hassan, who’s also making her digital debut with Devi, shared, “I loved the concept of the film when I heard it. We often talk about sisterhood and how women need to stand with each other. Devi highlights that aspect in such a lovely way, with such a powerful message. It’s disturbingly poignant and that’s why I knew I had to be part of it, and I couldn’t have found a more perfect film to make my debut on the digital platform”.
Devi is directed by Priyanka Banerjee and produced by Electric Apples Entertainment for Large Short Films with Niranjan Iyengar and Ryan Ivan Stephen.
