Before “Kalki 2898 AD” got its theatrical release, there were numerous complaints regarding the advertisement, or to be precise, the lack of it. But as it’s running wild at the box office, what felt like a sloppy attempt now feels like a well-thought-out process.
And right now, it has created history. “Kalki 2898 AD” delivered the highest opening weekend in Indian box office history.
Over the past two years, Indian cinema has been going mainstream on a global stage, especially after “RRR’s” exposure to the global award stages. The global audience is quite interested in that Desi Masala.

“Kalki” had a budget of ₹600 crore, and it seems well spent. Grossing ₹555 crore in its first weekend, the Prabhas film overtakes SRK’s “Jawan,” which previously held the record. Vyjayanthi Movies shared these numbers, and while one might doubt these statistics, seeing the hype and appreciation of the film, they can be pinpoint accurate.
Also, as “Kalki 2898 AD” gets a boost in release, the film can easily make its spot in the top 5 in terms of highest-grossing films of all time. “RRR” sits at the third spot with ₹1,387 crore, and “Kalki” can touch that figure. Though it will have a tough time dethroning “Dangal” or “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” it can easily make room in the top 5.
The star-stacked cast worked wonders for the film, especially Amitabh Bachchan’s performance, which has been praised by almost everyone. And as word of mouth spreads like wildfire, the film might set up some more records as well.
