Kalki Feels Liberated in the Web Space

Actress Kalki Koechlin has become immensely selective about her film appearances and has instead diverted all her energies towards the streaming space, which has certainly worked in her favour. A lineup including the likes of Smokers, Sacred Games 2, Made in Heaven and Bhram sounds inciting and she has a solid reason to justify her transition.

In an interview to a leading newspaper, she added, “Yes I’ve been doing a lot of web (shows) because I’m enjoying the space. OTT platforms allow so much more in terms of content. There is so much that one can experiment with.” Bhram, her last digital release, saw her playing a novelist with a post-traumatic stress disorder.

She finds that web shows offer her better scope to perform and adequate screen space for her character to establish. The difference is the duration of the content, she says. “While a film is about a two- hour footage, a web show can go up to nine hours. So, not just the story, but the characters that are a part of it, also grow. But only quality will sustain and whatever platform focuses on that, is going to stay,” Kalki adds.

However, in terms of shelf life, she insists not all web shows may be the same and only a few will manage to survive the test of time.
