Veteran Indian actor Kamal Haasan is leaving no stone unturned for promoting his next film ‘Vikram’ co-starring Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, and Suriya (cameo). The film is all set for a theatrical release on 3rd June 2022. During a recent press meet that took place in Chennai, the National Award-winning actor-filmmaker was quizzed about an update on the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster 1996 film ‘Indian’.
Kamal Haasan was quick to reply that ‘Indian 2’ is definitely going to happen and that discussions about the film’s shoot, which should commence in the near future, are already underway. The parent film ‘Indian’ was a vigilante action thriller which was helmed by eminent filmmaker S. Shankar, who is directing the sequel as well.
S. Shankar is busy these days directing Ram Charan’s next movie ‘RC 15’. So, once his work is done with Ram Charan’s film and if everything goes as planned, S. Shankar is expected to resume work for Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’.
Talks about a sequel to ‘Indian’ began way back in the year 2011 in the wake of the popularity of anti-corruption crusaders like Anna Hazare. The sequel was finally announced in 2017 and kicked off production in the year 2019. Indian 2’s filming came to a sudden halt in February 2020 after an unfortunate on-set incident. Then, it got further delayed because of the pandemic.
Besides Kamal Haasan, ‘Indian 2’ also features Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh, amongst other cast members.
The parent 1996 film ‘Indian’ featured Kamal Haasan in a double role – as a former freedom fighter Senapathy aka Indian and his son Chandru. After his daughter is fatally injured, Senapathy refuses to bribe corrupt officials for her treatment, resulting in her death. Armed with his deadly ancient martial arts fighting skills, he turns into a violent vigilante and ruthlessly punishes the corrupt wrongdoers – including his own son.
