Diehard movie buffs across the country are eagerly waiting for the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster 1996 film ‘Indian’. The parent film ‘Indian’ was a vigilante action thriller which featured veteran actor Kamal Haasan and it was helmed by eminent filmmaker S. Shankar, who is directing the sequel as well.
As per the latest report, the makers have now wrapped the filming schedule for ‘Indian 2’ which was happening in Chennai. And now, the team is expected to travel to the USA for the next filming schedule spanning around ten days.
‘Indian 2’ is a massively-mounted big-ticket venture. In a recent interview, ‘Rang De Basanti’ actor Siddharth, who is gearing up for his forthcoming movie ‘Takkar’, revealed that ‘Indian 2’ will be ten times bigger than the parent film ‘Indian’. Incidentally, Siddharth had made his acting debut in S. Shankar’s musical film ‘Boys’ back in the year 2003.
Besides ‘Indian 2’, maverick filmmaker Shankar is also busy with another film – a political action thriller flick starring ‘RRR’ actor Ram Charan in the lead role.
Talks about a sequel to ‘Indian’ began way back in the year 2011 in the wake of the popularity of anti-corruption crusaders like Anna Hazare. The sequel was finally announced in 2017 and kicked off production in the year 2019. Indian 2’s filming came to a sudden halt in February 2020 after an unfortunate on-set incident. Then, it got further delayed because of the pandemic. But now, production is under full swing.
Besides Kamal Haasan and Siddharth, ‘Indian 2’ also features Kajal Aggarwal, Gulshan Grover, and Rakul Preet Singh, amongst other cast members. As of now, the precise plot details for ‘Indian 2’ are being kept under the wraps for obvious reasons.
The parent 1996 film ‘Indian’ featured Kamal Haasan in a double role – as a former freedom fighter Senapathy aka Indian and his son Chandru. After his daughter is fatally injured, Senapathy refuses to bribe corrupt officials for her treatment, resulting in her death. Armed with his deadly ancient martial art fighting skills, he turns into a violent vigilante and ruthlessly punishes the corrupt wrongdoers – including his own son. Let’s see if ‘Indian 2’ can live up to the sky-high expectations and the phenomenal success of its predecessor.
