Tamil film production giant Lyca Productions finally revealed the release details for its hotly anticipated movie, Indian 2. The Kamal Haasan film will hit theatres in June 2024. But this is all that Lyca Productions has revealed – it has once again left fans hanging in mid-air by not revealing any confirmed date for the release of Indian 2. All that they’ve revealed is a June release for Indian 2.
How utterly disappointing for Kamal Haasan fans!
For those who don’t know, filmmaker Shankar Shanmugham’s Indian 2 was planning to release in theatres in April or May 2024. But the General Elections 2024 in the same months meant that Indian 2 needed to shelve its plans to release in theatres in either of those months. June is an ideal month for Indian 2’s release in theatres. But no confirmed date in June is definitely a bummer for fans.
It is common knowledge that Indian 2, the sequel to the 1996 film ‘Indian’, has been languishing in developmental hell since long. Tussles between producers Lyca Productions and director Shankar Shanmugham; court cases; leading lady Kajal Aggarwal’s marriage and motherhood; all this and more meant that the release of Indian 2 has been a dragging for the longest time. And now this.
Tamil pan-India film Indian 2 will see Kamal Haasan reprising his role from the original. Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Gulshan Grover, SJ Suryah, Vivek, Samuthirakani, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Jisshu Sengupta, among others, are the new cast members added to the sequel.
Much-in-demand composer Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music of Indian 2. Shankar Shanmugam is back on board to direct the sequel to his 1996 hit. Lyca Productions are the producers of Indian 2. Udhaynidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies are on board as co-producers. Red Giant Movies had also bankrolled Kamal Haasan’s Vikram.
