Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’: Another Propoganda Or Actual Truth

The trailer for Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming much awaited film ‘Emergency’ is here chronicling what it calls the darkest period of Indian history – The Emergency. Helmed by Ranaut herself, ‘Emergency’ will release in cinemas on 6th September, 2024.

The trailer begins with showcasing Indira Gandhi’s rise to power followed by fame. But soon the mood shifts towards portraying how her confidence starts turning into arrogance and how it culminates into her weirding absolute power and imposing emergency in the country without consulting even her cabinet.

It further shows the violence, political upheaval and public unrest that spreads throughout the nation following such drastic step taken by a Prime Minister for the first time ever.

While the trailer looks well cut, there are discrepancies that cannot be ignored. There’s no denying that Kangana is an incredible actor but in ‘Emergency’ her physical appearance as Indira Gandhi could have been done better.

Ever since the film was announced there has been this constant controversy around the subject that whether it’s just an objective, neutral and factual point of view that’s shown through ‘Emergency’ or is there a propaganda attached to the film to gain political advantage, given the personal political and ideological preferences of the people at the helm of the film.

Now that can be said for certainty only after the film’s release, until then we hope the film’s made with an open mind putting out the actual truth without any bias.

Touted to be an explosive saga of the most controversial episode of history of Indian democracy, ‘Emergency’ is a biographical political drama is based on true events that unfolded in 1975. The film chronicles incidents that took place under the leadership of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, one of the most powerful women in Indian history.

Written and directed by Kangana Ranaut herself, ‘Emergency’ marks her second directorial feature after ‘Manikarnika’. Ritesh Shah has penned the dialogues and screenplay for the film.

In addition to Ranaut, the film stars Mahima Chaudhary, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Ashok Chhabra, and Satish Kaushik in prominent roles.

‘Emergency’ is produced by Zee Studios ans Manikarnika Films. Renu Pitti, Kangana Ranaut and Umesh Kr Bansal are the producers of the film. ‘Emergency’ will release in theatres on 6th September, 2024. The post theatrical streaming rights for the film are acquired by Netflix.
