Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Gets A New Theatrical Release Date

After multiple delays in its theatrical release, Kangana Ranaut’s eagerly anticipated political drama movie ‘Emergency’ has just received a new release date. The movie will now hit the big screens on 14th June 2024. Earlier, it was supposed to be released on 24th November 2023.

The movie has been directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut herself and she also stars as the former Prime Minister of India – Indira Gandhi. As the name suggests, ‘Emergency’ will ostensibly focus on the tumultuous and controversial events which happened between the years 1975 to 1977 under the leadership of India’s first woman PM.

Besides Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, the star-studded film ‘Emergency’ also features Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram, Mahima Chaudhry as Indira Gandhi’s associate Pupul Jayakar, and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, amongst other cast members. It’s being described as a film which will “Unlock the story behind India’s darkest hour.”

In the recent past (post-2k era), several films have been made on the Emergency period or referring to it in some way. For instance, Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Indu Sarkar’ was set during the Emergency period, and even Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and Pa Ranjith’s boxing drama ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ were also set amidst the backdrop of the same period.

Kangana Ranaut’s last film ‘Tejas’ didn’t do well at the box office, and since the actress has been vocal about how she has put in her life’s earnings for the upcoming film ‘Emergency’, there is a lot which is at stake for the maverick and immensely talented actress.
