Kanguva Dilutes in the North Indian Market

With so much hype and anticipation, Suriya’s Kanguva opened in theatres earlier today trying to hit a jackpot on its first day. Instead of hitting a jackpot, the film failed even to start the game as it received tons of underwhelming reviews calling Suriya’s action thriller a complete disaster.

What looked like a sure-shot blockbuster on paper turned out to be a nonsensical and dragged work of art involving Bobby Deol and Disha Patani alongside the main lead Suriya. Despite having several messy moments and dreamy locations, the film excited the audiences for a huge-scale film but turned out to be a disappointment for the fans.

The film’s rough patch started from the pre-booking sales which were processed a day before its release. Despite having Karthi’s cameo in the film, it failed to capture the audience’s attention and turned out to be a disaster. While it was expected to make a huge impact on the Hindi box office, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing starts for Suriya in North India.

While the film minted over 14 crores on its first day, it captured a small quantity of audience in the Hindi belt. With an occupancy of 34%, Kanguva managed to have a respectable showing in Tamil-speaking regions but had only 9% occupancy in the North region displaying a disappointing graph of the film.

With around 2-2.5 crores on its opening day, Kanguva seems to have a loose hold over the Hindi belt and might not have a huge impact in its first weekend. Despite Suriya’s splendid performance, it remains to be seen how the film turns its trajectory after having a bad start in the theatres.
