Kannada Filmmakers Finally Break Into Netflix With Crime Stories: India Detectives!

A surprising new Kannada original series is dropping on Netflix, next month, titled ‘Crime Stories: India Detectives‘. This crime drama docuseries will follow Bangalore cops as they recount their investigation into some of the most brutal crimes that happened in the Karnataka capital city.
That grabbed your attention, didn’t it? Well, it did ours. And it grabbed Netflix‘s attention as well. The Kannada Film Industry is back with a vengeance, and we can’t wait to see this brilliant upcoming documentary series.

Sandalwood AKA the Kannada film industry has been doing fairly poorly in the direct-to-OTT releases in the past year and a half. Most of the projects made by Kannada filmmakers have either been rejected by OTT platforms or failed miserably so far. But, we believe, with ‘Crime Stories: India Detectives’, Sandalwood will be able to create a strong impression on Netflix and other mainstream OTT platforms. And Netflix isn’t the only streaming platform that has given the Kannada film industry a chance either.

Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Ikkat’ is another example of good Kannada content that was released directly for streaming. The film got good reviews from both critics and subscribers, and it helped reduce the “stigma” around Kannada content. While ‘Crime Stories: India Detectives’ is a documentary series and much darker than the aforementioned ‘Ikkat’, if successful, the web series will show that the South-Indian film industry is filled with all kinds of filmmakers.

‘Crime Stories: India Detectives’ will premiere on Netflix on September 13th 2021. Check out the link below, to see a promotional video, about the same:
