The Kannada language action thriller Indian movie ‘Kantara’ was released in theatres on 30th September. The film has garnered widespread admiration from both critics and audiences. And now, the movie has achieved another distinction by making a brilliant debut on IMDb’s list of top-rated Indian movies of all time.
‘Kantara’ currently holds a highly impressive IMDb user rating of 9.6/10 based on around 12k votes. The film holds 38th rank on IMDb’s top 250 highest rated Indian movies list as of now. ‘Kantara’ has also beaten the critically acclaimed Telugu language romantic drama ‘Sita Ramam’ (Rank 39) and Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ (Rank 180). ‘Kantara’ also holds a 99% audience appreciation score on movie ticketing portal BookMyShow.

Coming back to ‘Kantara’, the man vs nature centric film has been written and directed by and features actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty. The film is set in the fictional village of Kantara and follows the story of a hot-headed henchman named Shiva (Rishab Shetty). When a forest officer Murali (Kishore) tries to stop the local superstitions in the village and save the forest from the residents, Shiva locks horns with Murali with support from his landlord (Achyuth Kumar). The highly rated film has been narrated in three different timelines – 1890s, 1970s, and the 1990s period. The Hindi and Telugu versions of ‘Kantara’ will be released on 14th October and 15th October, respectively.
