Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta produced web series ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ is set to come out on Netflix, next week on 27th November 2020. But both film producers have come under fire recently, regarding the title of the series, with director-producer, Madhur Bhandarkar accusing the duo of being “ethically and morally wrong” for using said title.
Madhur Bhandarkar is said to be making a film titled ‘Bollywood Wives’ which will be loosely based on the lives of Gauri Khan, Mira Rajput and Twinkle Khanna. The title for this film had been registered over six months ago and the script for the film is currently being made. The film will reportedly not show the “better halves” of prominent A-list actors in a good light.
According to Madhur, both Karan and Apoorva had asked him to allow them to use the title ‘Bollywood Wives’ for their upcoming television series, to which he had refused. So because of that apparently, both producers decided to tweak the title to ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’, which has made Madhur to cry foul.
He went on twitter yesterday to publically call out both producers about the situation. He has also filed a complaint in Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) against Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Bhandarkar sent a letter to IMPPA along with the Guild and Netflix.
IMPPA has taken immediate action and wrote to the Guild, to which they responded that the title in favour of Dharma Productions has not been registered. As a result, IMPPA then sent a letter to Dharma Productions to submit their reply on the matter immediately and change the title with immediate effect. The letter has also been marked to Netflix. We are now waiting on the current situation to know more. The tweet and the letters will be shown below:
Karan Johar’s ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ is set to star Anil Kapoor’s sister-in-law, Ananya Pandey’s mother, Salman Khan’s sister-in-law and actor Neelam. So the title Bollywood wives might be a little bit of an exaggeration here. The trailer of the upcoming series is out and the show looks to be cringier than ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ and ‘Indian Matchmaking’ combined. If there are people out there who are willing to watch four “entitled women” with connections to Bollywood living out their glamorous lives, then this is your show.
Dear @karanjohar U & @apoorvamehta18 had asked me 4 the title #BollywoodWives for web, which I refused,as my project is underway. It is Morally & ethically wrong u to tweak it to #TheFabulousLivesofBollywoodWives. Pls do not dent my project. I humbly request u to change the title.
